What is Sovereign Gold Bond?
Sovereign Gold Bond(SGB) in short are govt securities denomination in grams of gold. These Bond’s are substitute of the physical Gold.The Bond is issued by RBI on behalf of Government of India.These bonds are redeemable.

Lock in Period-:Gold bond have a term of 8 year with lock in period of 5 years.The exit option for SGB are available in the 5th,6th,7th year.What are benefits or characteristics of the SoverignGold Bond?
Trade benefit-:An investor can also trade the bond on both stock exchange(NSE,BSE) after listing within fortnight of the issuance,.
Collateral against Loan-: Soverign Gold Bonds also acceptable in banks as a collateral against various secured loan.
Soverign Gold Bond Interest Rate-: The investors will be paid Interest on the amount of initial investment at the rate notified by RBI for a particular tranche at the time of its launch and is payable semi-annually.Currently Gold bonds offer an annual interest rate of 2.50% to investors.
Tenor(Exit Period) : The tenor of the bond will be for a period of 8 years with an exit option from 5th year onwards to be exercised on the interest payment dates.If you given your demat account no while buying SGB then you can exit while it listed(within 15 days) on your portfolio.
